Singer, guitar player, and songwriter Patsy Hamel, has been gigging around the Boston area for many a year now....
and since December of 2008, I've had the pleasure of taking over the drum chair in her band and joining her, and her longtime bandmates Gerry Bellegarde (bass) and Johnnie Mac (harp and vocals) on drums....
Patsy and the band cover many styles and songs from Loretta Lynn and Bonnie Raitt to the Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead.... Patsy's own songwriting stands out as strong and personal and along with fellow songwriter Johnnie Mac, really sets the band apart as a unique and soulful...
The Patsey Hamel Band has had a once a month residency in the great music pub Sally O'brien's in Somerville MA for about four years now...... each performance brings new takes on standards and some old style jamming on old chestnuts and new originals alike.... numerous guitar players (subbing with the band according to their schedules) have added to the changing flavor and musical interaction on stage! Bob Metzger, Michael Donalo, Stan Martin, Mark Andreas, Gregg, and Chuck Parrish have all participated on "guitar duty" and all have pushed the regular band members through some different and interesting musical areas......
Look on the GIGS page to find out when and where the bands next dates will be - and who will be guesting with the band....

A little history:
Thanks to having met the bass player, Gerry Bellegarde, of the Patsy Hamel Band and his own Belltower Studios a few years ago.... I've started meeting and playing with a variety of the local musicians up here in Cambridge and Boston.... After the Patsy Band lost their regular drummer, Gerry had the thought of having Patsy give me a try in the drum chair... he thought I'd be a good fit because that band, like my NY band Chaser, does a lot of different styles of music - from Patsy's originals, which are based in the country vein, to jazz and psychodelic Rock and Roll!
It seems like he was right and it's been going well! Real well! --- Once a month we do an early Saturday eve at the local Somerville pub Sally O'brien's - www.sallyobriensbar.com - and there's dancing and lots of fun with a full house most every time....
I'll continue this story and add audio, photos etc. in the near future......

The members of Those Old Bastards love to play music, anytime, anywhere, as long as we finish playing before some of the members bedtimes! - Luckily those bedtimes vary and with a forced naptime schedule - we can overcome that obstacle! We've got Tony Barca, Mike Cummings, and Phil Antonucci, all on guitars and vocals (that's way too many strings up there). David Noyes on bass and vocals (luckily only adding 4 strings - phew!). Larry "El Piano" Ketchell on keyboards, and Scotty Kistenberger on drums. Old Rock + Roll, Country, Beatles, Blues, Originals, and seemingly endless guitar solos are just part of what we do. Lots of great songs, good harmony, and some kickin' jammy jams let a little bit of everything in! All the members have played together in different combinations for years and years and when this combo fell together - it was a "keeper"! We only manage to get together every once in awhile - but everytime we do it sounds better than the last time - so if Rock + Roll, Pickin' Tunes, and Beatles music with a heavy dose of humor and "Ravi Shankar like" tuning breaks is your thing - we're there! Hurry - we're gettin' older every day !!! (every minute even !!!) Click Here To Hear Those Old Bastards plus

Yes there are three men and there is a dentist --- in the past we also had Joey Cruz on keyboards - so we called it "3 Men + A Dentist + Joe" The dentist - whom which the band was formed around - plays acoustic guitar (when he's not peering in your mouth) and sings - and he knows at least a little bit of quite a few songs! Mike Nugent - who's one of the coolest guitar players on da Long Island scene since day one ( which is like 1970 or something) plays electric guitar, very well, and also sings. While Paul likes to sing Bruce and Neil (he seems to be on a first name basis with these folks) - Mike covers Stevie Ray (2 names), and Van (back to 1 name). David Noyes (hey this guy is playing, like myself, in every band on this website! - what up wit dat?) plays bass extraordinaire - and oddly enough - only sings in the bands he plays with if he's receiving under $50.00 in pay for the night! (hey, what up wit dat?) Scotty K plays drums and originally formed the band - and Larry K (no relation) has now taken over where Joey Cruz, with his move to Florida, has left off. This band held down a Tuesday night gig at a local Huntington, NY club (Mother Magees, under the tutelage of John + Larry) for about 5 years - and really had something going there for awhile! We play very sporadically now, but what we really need is a reason to get together - and if you love The Eagles, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, The Travelling Willburys, Neil Young, + Bruuuuuce! - maybe you should throw a party and hire the "Dental Team" !!!!! www.paperbagmusic.com
The Paper Bag is like nothing you've ever seen before! The Bag is a once a year concert experience that is approaching it's 29th anniversary. Originated and still presided over by Mike Guido as the Master Of Ceremonies, the Bag has grown from an impromto jam that he sparked at an upstate N.Y. camping trip that was organized as The People's Picnic (the jam being based on an old original song called "Paper Bag" from one of his bands) to a giant conglomeration of musicians, stagehands, sound + light personnel, and good hearted wackos! At times you can count 60 or more people on stage during the performance!
Thus, the Bags subheading as "The Worlds Only 60 Piece Rock Band". And the band doesn't stop from 10:00 pm until 4:00 am!
Every year the heads of each "section" (percussion, keyboards, guitars, horns, etc.) start meeting in January - and have monthly meetings about song selection, theme ideas, new membership, etc., as the June date of the Bag approaches. The song selection basically falls within Classic Rock + Roll - which we all grew up with - love - and are still convinced is some of the best music ever made!
Hendrix, The Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Motown, Jethro Tull, - it's all in there! - we play some favorites yearly, but often come up with 30 or 40 newly (or not played for many years) picked songs. We have a lot of fun which leads to the headline -
"We'll keep doing this until the audience stops showing up!" --- On the tickets themselves the words "We urge you to take the next day off" are posted prominently. Veterans of the Bag, whether they're performers or audience members, heed the warning!
And speaking of the audience, bless their souls, - they show up year after year - over 1200 strong with no advertising! Bag Contests, Rookie Of The Year, and Most Valuble Player of the Year Awards are given out - and after all these years - it's gotten to be a big reunion for many. --- to be continued....
We're not too far from this year's event - THURSDAY JUNE 26th - 10pm at MULCAHY's in WANTAGH,NY

I have a simple motto - "If I can read the fine print on the CD - I'll play it for you!"
I'm old, I'm in the way, and I love (and have a large collection of) all types of great dance music. Whether you like Motown or current dance music (you know, with lyrics only your kids know), Jazz, or Elvis - I'll provide a wide variety of fun, infectious music for your party. I'll spin dance tune after dance tune (with your personal picks and tastes in mind) until you say, "no more". My strong point is that I've been "calling the tunes" in CHASER for most of the last 25 years - so I have a good instinct when it comes to keeping the dance floor filled. If listening/backround music is what you had in mind - that's OK too. So, with my studious concerned look and my reading glasses, I don't have the appeal of The Euro Jetsetter DJ - hey - I thought you wanted to dance?
